The method involves fastening body shell holders (8) behind each other at a body shell floor (3) of a motor vehicle body (4) on each vehicle side laterally from a luggage compartment cavity (5). A support plate (9) is fitted on the holders. A cover closing the cavity is fitted on an inwardly lying edge of the support plate on each vehicle side. The cover and the plate are aligned relative to each other and to a body fixed reference structure. The aligned plate is fastened to the holders. The aligned cover is fastened at the holders and/or the plate on each vehicle side. An independent claim is also included for a luggage compartment floor comprising body shell holders.
