<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spread illuminating apparatus having high brightness, in which a point light source can be positioned and fixed to a light incident end face side of a light guide plate having an inclined face with high precision. <P>SOLUTION: The spread illuminating apparatus 10 includes an LED 11, a light guide plate 21, and an FPC 31 mounted with the LED 11. The light guide plate 21 includes: the light incident end face 22 on which the LED 11 is arranged; a light-emitting portion 28 to planarly emit light from the LED 11 incident from the light incident end face 22; and an inclined portion 27 of which the thickness gradually decreases as going toward the side of the light-emitting portion 28 and which is formed between the light incident end face 22 and the light-emitting portion 28. In the inclined portion 27, a plurality of pedestals 29 to fix the FPC 31 are dispersed and formed in regions excluding front portions of the LEDs 11. The upper face 29a of the pedestal 29 is formed so as to be orthogonal to the light incident end face 22 of the light guide plate 21.
