PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device and a reproducing device having more improved convenience for a user. SOLUTION: The content recording device (11) receives contents to be recorded and generates a key for encrypting the contents. The recording device encrypts the contents by using the generated key, records the generated key in a first recording medium (19), and records data of the encrypted contents in a second recording medium (33). The recording device records, in the first recording medium, management information indicating that contents decodable by the key recorded in the first recording medium has been recorded in the second recording medium.
