PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-room type air conditioner capable of sharing components between a pair type indoor unit and a multi type indoor unit. SOLUTION: The multi-room type air conditioner includes one outdoor unit (not shown in Fig.) and the plurality of indoor units 16a, 16b, 16c connected to the outdoor unit. The indoor unit 16a includes an indoor heat exchanger 6a and an indoor expansion valve 21a. An indoor controller 15a (15b, 15c) is arranged on the lateral side of the indoor heat exchanger 6a, and the indoor expansion valve 21a is arranged on the lateral side opposite to the indoor heat exchanger 6a. Since it is unnecessary to cut part of the back face side of the indoor heat exchanger 6a to arrange the indoor expansion valve 21a, the length of a front face side heat exchange part 6a-1 and the length of a back face side heat exchange part 6a-2 are made equal to each other. Thus, the multi type indoor unit can have performance equivalent to that of the pair type indoor unit having no built-in expansion valve, and components can be shared between the respective pair type and multi type indoor units.
