PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool increased in machining accuracy by accurately measuring the distance between the center of the spindle, and the tool post even if a thermal displacement occurs. SOLUTION: A displacement measurer 20 having a spindle center measuring part 22 and a tool post reference position measuring part 23 is installed on a headstock 5, and a shaft to be detected 21 is attached to the tool post 8. The spindle center measuring part 22 has gap sensors S for detecting the gaps between the outer peripheral surface of the spindle 6 and itself at least in two positions in the circumferential direction, respectively. The tool post reference position measuring part 23 has gap sensors S for detecting the gaps between the outer peripheral surface of the shaft to be detected 21 and itself at least in two positions in the circumferential direction, respectively. The machine tool includes a means 28 for acquiring the center O of the spindle and the axis of the shaft to be detected from the outputs of the gap sensors 3, and calculating the distance between the center O of the spindle and the tool post 8.
