An electronic sphygmomanometer is provided with: a cuff (20) mounted at a measurement location; a tank (57) capable of storing a predetermined amount of fluid: a pressure adjustment unit for adjusting the pressure applied to the cuff or tank by supplying or discharging fluid; a pressure detector which includes a pressure sensor (32) and detects the pressure inside the cuff or the pressure inside the tank on the basis of the pressure information output from the pressure sensor; a blood pressure calculation unit (112) for calculating blood pressure values in accordance with changes in the pressure inside the cuff as detected by the pressure detector; a malfunction detector (113) for detecting whether or not the pressure sensor has malfunctioned; and a first flow channel which communicates with the pressure adjustment unit and the pressure detector, and which is selectively connected to either the tank or the cuff. When the tank is connected to the first flow channel and fluid is supplied to the tank, the malfunction detector detects whether or not the pressure sensor has malfunctioned on the basis of the pressure inside the tank as detected by the pressure detector in accordance with the pressure information output from the pressure sensor.
