The arrangement has a magnetic element (3) attached at a peripheral surface of a disk (2) and cooperating with an inductive path sensor (4) for determining an angular position of a shaft (1). The path sensor measures a vector of magnetic field of the magnetic element. An axis of the disk is positioned opposite and at a distance to an axis of the shaft such that the disk converts rotation of the shaft into axial alternating translational motion. The motion is detected by a measuring range of the path sensor, and an electronic evaluation unit calculates the actual angular position.
