[Also in Division C7] A porous catalytic sheet of Ag, Ni, Fe or Pt useful as a fuel cell or battery electrode is made by spraying molten particles of an alloy chosen from with or without a diluent metal such as Ni or Cu, on to a substrate and then leaching Al from the deposited alloy by immersion in an aqueous alkaline solution. Up to 5% residual Al may remain after leaching. The substrates may remain permanently attached to the porous sheet or may be removable. Suitable substrate materials are Ni, Cu, cast iron, stainless steel, A1, a sprayed coating of Mo on Ni or stainless steel, A1 having an oxide coating, paper, cloth, plastics and asbestos. The porous sheet may be rendered non-pyrophoric by immersion in aerated H 2 O to which H 2 O 2 may be added. |
