<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide preventive and/or therapeutic compositions (medicines and/or health foods) effective for acute hepatic dysfunction (particularly, drug-induced acute hepatic dysfunction), which contain a highly safe ingredient derived from natural animals or plants as an active ingredient. <P>SOLUTION: Discharge of toxic substances in a liver which is a causal factor of acute hepatic dysfunction is promoted by the application of a composition containing, as an active ingredient, betaine(trimethylglycine) which is a highly safe amino acid derivative widely contained in animals and plants, to prevent and treat acute hepatic dysfunction.
