PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problems: when a plurality of media are formatted in the same format, user needs to replace a medium every time formatting is completed, and to select and confirm settings for the format operation, thereby requiring much time and effort in continuous formatting. SOLUTION: When formatting of a medium ends, a format continuation processor 104 determines whether another medium is to be formatted in the same format obtained by a first format setting processor 101.
