The device has a centering body (2) arranged in an opening of a tube (15) and containing a centering rod (1). The centering rod is displaced with respect to the centering body, and a motion direction of the centering rod runs transverse to a surface (17) of asphalt. The centering rod and/or the centering body is provided with an activation device (3) i.e. motor. The activation device moves the centering rod by application of force in a direction of the asphalt surface and/or holds the centering rod in a predetermined position. Length of the centering rod is adjusted.
