<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber manufacturing method for more easily manufacturing an optical fiber having a minute and complex cross sectional structure. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber manufacturing method includes: preparing first base materials each of which includes at least one core forming part to form a core and a cladding forming part to form a cladding; performing a first stretching step to form second base materials by forming a first bundle by bundling two or more base materials including at least one of the prepared first base materials and by thermally stretching the first bundle; and performing a second stretching step to form a second bundle by bundling two or more base materials including at least one of the second base materials and by thermally stretching the second bundle.
