PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device that reduces costs for manufacturing a photodetector which is irradiated with return light reflected from a signal recording layer provided in a disk and which is provided to generate a signal to be used for focus control operation and tracking control operation. SOLUTION: The photodetector includes: a photodetection integrated circuit component 17 which incorporates a semiconductor element for photodetecting laser light; and a printed wiring board 18 for an integrated circuit on which the photodetection integrated circuit component 17 is surface-mounted. The printed wiring board 18 for an integrated circuit and a main printed wiring board 21 which incorporates the control circuit of the optical pickup device are connected via a flexible printed wiring board 19.
