PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality by suppressing a white spot phenomenon without upsizing an apparatus. SOLUTION: An auxiliary roller 39 is provided on a side opposite to a side on which a secondary transfer roller 35 comes into contact with an intermediate transfer belt 14. During secondary transfer, transfer current is applied not only between the intermediate transfer belt 14 and the secondary transfer roller 35 but also between the secondary transfer roller 35 and both ends of the auxiliary roller 39, whereby transfer voltage is decreased. Moreover, toner adhering to the secondary transfer roller 35 can be removed by the auxiliary roller 39, and also, deflection of the secondary transfer roller 35 can be corrected by the auxiliary roller 39.
