A method of preparing a pigment comprising in order the steps of: a) providing a pigment containing a nucleophile group under basic conditions; b) reacting the pigment with a compound according to Formula (I):wherein, X is a halogen atom or a tosylate group; and R1 and R2 independently represent an alkyl group; and c) hydrolyzing the R1-O bound and/or the R2-Obound. Pigments obtainable by the method and non aqueous pigment dispersions are also disclosed.
