<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clothes dryer and a washing and drying machine with high credibility which is capable of smoothly switching air passages with little noise even when the air volume of the air for drying is changed. <P>SOLUTION: The clothes dryer includes: a drum 1 to house clothes; a heater 50 to heat the air for drying; a circulating air passage 13, where a blowing fan 4 to blow air for drying is arranged in the air passage, to circulate the air for drying via the drum 1 and the heater 50 and again to the drum 1 sequentially; an air volume control part to adjust the air volume of the air for drying inside the circulating air passage 13 by controlling the blowing fan 4; the first air passage having the first outlet; the second air passage having the second outlet whose air passage cross-sectional area is smaller than the first outlet; and an air passage switching part to switch the first air passage and the second air passage selectively.
