<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light emitting element which has high light utilization efficiency and high optical output. <P>SOLUTION: The surface light emitting element includes a light emission portion 11 provided on a semiconductor substrate 10 and emitting light in a direction crossing a surface of the semiconductor substrate 10, a shield portion 13 provided on a projection surface side opposed to the surface of the semiconductor substrate 10 and having an opening 13a for projecting the light to the outside, and a light accumulation layer 12 provided between the light emission portion 11 and shield portion 13 and having incident light accumulated therein. The light accumulation layer 12 has a periodic structure wherein recesses or projections are periodically provided in a direction crossing the traveling direction of the light emitted from the light emission portion 10, and fine unevenness for capturing photons is formed in at least a partial area on a surface of the periodic structure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
