<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform edge enhancement processing to an input image with different resolution in the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction without complicating configuration. <P>SOLUTION: To the input image, smoothing filter processing is performed in the sub-scanning direction by a sub-scanning Gaussian filter 51. Then, to the image to which the smoothing filter processing has been performed in the sub-scanning direction, the smoothing filter processing is performed in the main scanning direction by a main scanning Gaussian filter 52.
