<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance labyrinth type air treatment apparatus constituted so as to enhance the dust collection effect of a dust collection unit by changing an air flowing direction. <P>SOLUTION: The high performance labyrinth type air treatment apparatus is constituted by installing a dust collection unit 2 in the duct 12 of the shell body 11 of an air treatment apparatus 1, and the dust collection unit 2 is constituted of one or more alternately arranged negatively (positively) charged dust collection plates 21 corresponding to each other. An air flow passage 22 is formed in the dust collection unit 2 so as to half close a labyrinth, and the discharge emitting end (wire) 31 of an air ionizing generator and a fan 4 are provided in the duct 12 of the air treatment apparatus 1. The air sucked by the fan 4 passes a vicinity of the discharge emitting end (wire) 31 of the air ionizing generator to be ionized, the foreign matter particles in the air are negatively (positively) charged, the negatively (positively) charged foreign matters in the air advance into the labyrinth type air flow passage 22 in the dust collection unit 2 to detour in the same to thereby collide with the negatively (positively) charged dust collection plates 21.
