PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mute device and an audio system which can effectively suppress noise generation when a cable is inserted and when the cable is pulled out. SOLUTION: A control section is provided in which whether a cable is inserted is detected at time intervals and when any change in the presence/absence of insertion is detected, chattering in detection is removed. Whether the presence/absence of the insertion after the change is continued is monitored for a monitoring time T.
