POLARIZING PLATE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

Disclosed are: a polarizing plate which has a good balance between visibility (clearness) and suppression of the occurrence of partial deformation defects under high temperature high humidity conditions; and a liquid crystal display device using the polarizing plate. Specifically disclosed is a polarizing plate in which a protective film, a polarizing film and a hard coat film that is composed of a base film and a hard coat layer provided thereon are sequentially laminated. The polarizing plate is characterized in that the hard coat layer has an arithmetic average surface roughness Ra (JIS B0601, 2001) of 2-20 nm and a ratio of the arithmetic average surface roughness Ra to the average length RSm of outline curve element (JIS B0601, 2001), namely an Ra/RSm ratio of from 3 × 10-4 to 2 × 10-3.
