PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for laser graving which is suitable for a relief forming layer of a relief printing plate precursor for laser engraving that has excellent water resistance and excellent rinsability with respect to engraving scraps generated due to laser engraving. SOLUTION: The resin composition for laser engraving, including at least a phenol derivative (A) represented by general formula (A), a binder polymer (B), and a crosslinking agent (C), wherein the content of the phenol derivative (A) with respect to the total solid content of the resin composition is from 5% by mass to 50% by mass, wherein R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a monovalent substituent; at least one of R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>is a monovalent substituent having a structure represented by -X-R<SP>6</SP>; X represents a single bond, -COO- or the like; R<SP>6</SP>represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, or the like, in which the number of constituent atoms other than hydrogen atoms in each of these groups is from 1 to 20.
