PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive composition for providing an adhesive sheet having improved adhesive performance without using a carboxy group-containing monomer and an adhesive sheet for sticking to a metal surface using the composition. SOLUTION: The water dispersion type adhesive composition comprises an acrylic copolymer as a base polymer. The copolymer is a copolymerization reaction product of a monomer mixture having a composition comprising a prescribed amount of a 1-12C alkyl group-containing alkyl(meth) acrylate, a prescribed amount of an N-vinyl cyclic amide and/or (meth)acrylamide which may contain an N-alkyl group and a prescribed amount of a 2-4C N-hydroxyalkyl group-containing N-hydroxyalkyl(meth)acrylamide and substantially not containing a carboxy group-containing monomer.
