摘要 <p>The method for operating a crust braking device for metal melt (1) with a fluid powered, double-acting crust braking cylinder (2), comprises guiding a piston rod (3) of the crust braking cylinder with chisel at end side according to a standard of electronic drive unit through corresponding control of an electropneumatic valve arrangement (6) associated to the crust braking cylinder between an initial position and a starting position. A connection to a feed pressure source is produced for extension of the piston rod through a cylinder base side valve of the valve arrangement. The method for operating a crust braking device for metal melt (1) with a fluid powered, double-acting crust braking cylinder (2), comprises guiding a piston rod (3) of the crust braking cylinder with chisel at end side according to a standard of electronic drive unit through corresponding control of an electropneumatic valve arrangement (6) associated to the crust braking cylinder between an initial position and a starting position. A connection to a feed pressure source is produced for extension of the piston rod through a cylinder base side valve of the valve arrangement that is formed as 3/2 way-valve (7) at the same time a connection to cylinder cover side valves of the valve arrangement exists to the feed pressure source so that the slighter effective diameter of the piston-rod side piston surface causes a retraction movement under slight power against the piston surface. The connection of the cylinder cover-side valve is interrupted to the feed pressure source for breaking the crust, and the used air is delivered to atmosphere so that an increase of the influential power is caused. The cylinder cover-side valve is formed as 3/2 way-valve and is actuated through an electric-, electronic- or pneumatic timing element standing over a branch line in connection with the cylinder-base side valve so that the pre-control pressure required for controlling the valve present at the cylinder cover-side valve is provided in order to interrupt the connection to feed pressure source and to shift a low-energetic operation for retracting the piston rod in a high energetic operation for breaking the crust. The cylinder-cover side valve is controlled first after the expiration of defined time period through the electric, electronic or pneumatic timing element, where the time period is greater than the time period that is required during missing the crust for complete retracting of the piston rod. The control of the cylinder-base side valve is terminated through the electronic control unit after the complete extension of the piston rod and/or after the expiration of the time period so that its connection to feed pressure source is interrupted and the used air is delivered to the atmosphere. The control of the cylinder-cover side valve is determined through the electric, electronic or pneumatic timing element based on missing pressure so that its connection is produced again for feed pressure source and the piston rod is brought in its initial position. Independent claims are included for: (1) a device for operating a crust braking device for metal melt with a fluid powered, double-acting crust braking cylinder; and (2) a crust breaking device.</p>
