PURPOSE: Device and method for controlling an air conditioner are provided to perform power-saving operation and to enable the reasonable operation of an air conditioner. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling an air conditioner comprises an input unit(400), a communication unit(200), a control unit(300) and an output unit(500). The input unit receives an operation mode required for the operation of the air conditioner and one or more setting commands. The communication unit is connected to an external device by a wired/wireless communication unit and receives power information. The control unit calculates power-consumption estimate and electric-charge estimate based on the operation mode and the power information. The output unit displays one of more of the operation mode, the power-consumption estimate and the electric-charge estimate.
