PURPOSE: A hand held type wireless traffic signal control system and a control method are provided to remotely control a traffic signal controller by carrying a remote controller for controlling a traffic signal. CONSTITUTION: In a hand held type wireless traffic signal control system and a control method, a wireless remote controller(100) checks whether a control signal is inputted and transmits a control signal to a wireless signal controller according to the driving the traffic signal controller. The wireless signal controller maintains the operation of a traffic signal open and close according to the signal of the wireless remote controller. The wireless signal controller transmits corresponding open and close information to the traffic signal controller. The traffic signal controller receives a control signal from the wireless controller and controls a plurality of switches according to received data.
