Anionic borane polymer (A), is new. Anionic borane polymer (A) of formula ([B hH h-2-k-mX 1+kY1 m] n(2n ->)) (I) or ([CB h-1H h-2-k-mX 1+kY1 m] n(n ->)) (II) is new. X : O, S, SO, SO 2, S 2, S(O)S, S(O)S(O), POR, PR 3 or POR 3; R : 1-4C alkyl, aryl (both preferred), F, Cl, Br, I or H, where the aryl is substituted by OH, OR, SO 3H, COH, CO 2H, Br, Cl, F, ON, CN, NH 2, CF 3, NO 2, methyl or ethyl; Y1 : OH, F, Cl, Br, OR, SH, SR, SR 2, SCN, CO, COR, CO 2R, NH 2, NH 3 or NR 3; h : 10 or 12; k : 0-2; m : 0-10 (when h is 12) or 0-8 (when h is 10); and n : greater than 10 9>. Independent claims are included for: (1) a cation exchanger comprising (A); and (2) the preparation of (A).
