PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the percentage of call failures in a wireless communication device by automatically switching to an alternate, available system for call origination when it is unable to complete a call origination attempt, without requiring the user to take any actions to select the alternate system or re-initiate a call origination. SOLUTION: The wireless communication device includes a transceiver 104 and a processor 107. The processor generates a first signaling message for transmission to a first communication system and generates a second signaling message for transmission to a second communication system if the transceiver does not receive an acknowledgement message from the first communication system.
