<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize a time and cost consumed for regenerating partitions including invalid data on a storage medium, and the required processing power of a computer. <P>SOLUTION: A system and a method for automatically linking the partitions on the storage medium used in a storage management system are provided. An application traces position information about each file or data object written in a storage tape, and can identify the "vacant" or writable partition created on the storage tape due to the expiration of a file by using the position information. Furthermore, a device forms a logical volume by automatically being linked to the writable partitions when writing the files into the storage tape, and the device can automatically be navigated through the logical volume when reading the files from the storage tape. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
