PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that exactly estimates the remaining life duration of an optical scanner. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 is configured by detachably mounting the optical scanner 21 thereon, which exposure-scans a surface to be scanned with an optical beam emitted from a light source. The image forming apparatus is provided with: a CPU (an arithmetic means) 33 for calculating the remaining life duration of the optical scanner 21 based on an initial value, current value and accumulated light-emitting period of an operating current with regard to a constant light output of the light source of the optical scanner 21; a storing means 32 for storing the initial value, current value and accumulated light-emitting period of the operating current with regard to a predetermined light amount of the light source of the optical scanner 21, and the remaining life duration of the optical scanner 21; and a display panel (a display means) 34 for displaying the remaining life duration of the optical scanner 21, which is stored by the storing means 32.
