PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging lens having a four-lens constitution in which various aberrations are satisfactorily corrected, even while being more compact than conventional types, and to provide an imaging apparatus which is reduced in size and has satisfactory performance. SOLUTION: The imaging lens includes, in the order starting from the object side: a first lens having positive refractive power, with a convex surface directed to the object side; a second lens having negative refractive power, with a concave surface directed to an image side; a third lens having positive refractive power; and a fourth lens having negative refractive power, with a concave surface directed to the image side, and at least the image-side surface of which has aspherical shape. If f denotes the focal length of the imaging lens system as a whole, f3 denotes the focal length of the third lens, and d6 denotes an air space on the optical axis between the third lens and the fourth lens, the imaging lens satisfies the conditional expressions: (1) and (2), where expression (1) is 0.08
