The method involves supplying a preset signal i.e. impulse, at an input of an electrical component (3) in a voltage level i.e. 12-volt level, of the component, and measuring a signal response i.e. impulse response, at an output of the component in another voltage level i.e. high voltage level. Coupling attenuation of the component is calculated from the signal response and the preset signal. High voltage- and 12-volt line impedance stabilization network (LISN) elements (2, 5) are attached to the input and output. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining coupling attenuation of an electrical component of a motor vehicle.
