Class 7(2) A ferrous or light-metal cylinder head having one or more fins 24 is solid apart from inlet and exhaust passages 14, 15, bores for valve guides 19, bores 29, 30 for push rods and holding-down bolts or studs, a bore 22 for a fuel injector or an ignition device, and, if provided, a combustion pocket 21. An open-topped air-guiding cowling 26 may be provided. The passages 14, 15 may pass to the same side of the cylinder head. The invention is applicable to opposed-twin and in-line engines. The Provisional Specification refers to Specifications 371,025 and 439,426, to engines having more than one cylinder row, and to a body of metal largely or wholly filling a space between the inlet and exhaust passages and integral or in close heat-conducting association therewith and which may have on its upper surface cooling fins extending parallel or at right angles to the plane containing the valve axes.</p> |
