[Also in Division F2] Thermal insulating material, suitable for use in an exhausted space between walls to be thermally insulated from one another, comprises superposed sheets of plastics material, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, metallized in vacuo on one or both surfaces, e.g. with aluminium, the sheets having a relief so that adjacent sheets make point contact with each other. The relief may be achieved by roughening or corrugating the sheets, or by rolling to form upstanding pyramids or cones, the apices of the latter optional being perforated. Alternatively, separate elements, e.g. cups, cones or cylinders, made from the same metallized plastics material may be bonded to the surfaces of the sheets. Stacks of the sheets may be enclosed in welded metallized plastic bags, a series of such bags being used to fill the said space. |
