A propellant charge for artillery which can be broken into required lengths comprises a hollow cylinder 7 of material which has a low inflammability and disintegrates during firing, e.g. foamed polystyrol, a number of separate charge sections within the casing, and circumferential lines of weakness 5 in the outer surface of the cylinder corresponding to the junctions of the charges. The weakenings may comprise notches or nip wires embedded in the walls of the cylinder. The cylinder is marked immediately adjacent the lines of weakness with an indication of the charge value of the associated section of the propellant charge. The top of the cylinder is closed by a cover 4 and a ring 3 at the base permits transmission of the ignition spark to the propellant charge. |
