In a domestic slicing machine having a rotary circular knife 1 which is readily removable for cleaning, the knife 1 has a hub 4, 5 with a central circular, hole for rotatable mounting on a boss 2 on the body 3 of the machine and the boss 2 is provided with a peripheral groove 10 to receive resilient retaining means 8 which is wholly accommodated in the groove 10 when the hub 4, 5 and knife 1 are to be removed and which projects outwardly from the groove 10 to engage the inner surface of the hub in the knife retaining position. The resilient means comprises an externally operated rod 7 formed at one end with an open, oval loop 8 engaged in the groove 10 with its inner end anchored in the boss 2 and projecting ends of the loop 8 engaging the conical inner surface of the hub 5. To free the knife 1, the rod 7 is pulled by a pivoted lever 11, 12 to deform the oval loop 8 so that it is wholly received in the groove 10. One side face of the groove 10 comprises a detachable disc 9. The hub 4 is formed with peripheral teeth for engagement by a driving pinion. |
