A package has overlapping closure flaps 17, 23, which are secured together by means of a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape 18, Fig. 2 (not shown), affixed to the inner flap and extending between sealed end portions of the container against which the outer flap abuts, and lines of weakness 14 disposed at each end seal. A web (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), which is fed from a reel 11, has an inner heat-sealable polyethylene layer 12, an outer superimposed cellulose film (13) and a series of perforations 14. The web 10 is passed under an article 15, Fig. 1 (not shown), to be packaged and one edge (16) of the web folded partially over the article. A tape 18 coated on both sides with pressure-sensitive adhesive is then affixed to the flap 17 and the opposite edge (22) of the web is folded over the article so that the flap 23 overlaps the flap 17. Roller means (not further described), apply pressure to the area of the flaps above the tape 18. The tubular web is then heat-sealed transversely to enclose the article and the so-formed package is cut from the web. A strip (25), Fig. 2 (not shown), of the flap 23 may be heat-sealed to the flap 17. The package is opened by pulling a projecting lip (24), Fig. 2 (not shown), of the flap 23 and tearing along the lines 14. The package can be resealed by re-applying the flap 23 to the adhesive tape 18. The flaps 17, 23 may alternatively be sealed together by any suitable pressure sensitive adhesive. The web 10 may also be of polyethylene, polypropylene &c., paper foil &c.
