FIELD: physics. ^ SUBSTANCE: apparatus consists of a measuring element, a gas cylinder (10) and a flow metre (11). The measuring element has a housing (5) with an inlet fitting (8), a bushing (4), a displacer (3), one end of which is fixed by a hinge (6) with a cup (1), and the other end by a spring (7) with an end cap (2) and an outlet fitting (9). The apparatus is calibrated in order to control the diametre of the displacer. A standard displacer is fit in the end cap of the measuring element and flow of gas through the apparatus is measured, the value of which depends on the size of the annular gap between the end cap and the displacer. The controlled displacer is then fit into the end cap and gas flow rate is measured once more.
