A wire for use with a conventional flame spraying gun comprises a metal tube of e.g. Cu, Al, Fe, steel, brass or bronze filled with a suspension of particles of e.g. alumina, zirconia, titania, beryllia, feldspar, mullite, tungsten carbide, silicon carbide, Ni, Co, Fe, steel, Pb, Pb-Sn solders, molybdenum disulphide, babbit metals, graphite, and graphite coated with Zn, Al or Cu. The particles may be suspended in aqueous solutions containing wetting agents, thickening agents e.g. starch, sodium carboxy methyl cellulose, bentonite, vegetable gums or factices or they may be suspended in organic materials e.g. rubber or synthetic rubber, plastics, e.g. vinyl, epoxy, polyurethane or phenol formaldehyde resins.
