<p>A convertible door handle system includes a receiver plate (12), a handle (14) inserted through an opening in the receiver plate (26), a drive assembly (130) positioned within a recess in the receiver plate (12), and a removable locking fastener (140) securing the handle (14) and drive assembly (130) within the receiver plate (12). A method is also provided for converting a functional configuration of a door handle system. The method includes disassembling the door handle system by removing a removable locking fastener from the door handle system (310), reconfiguring at least one component of the door handle system to change the functional configuration (312), and reinstalling the removable locking fastener onto the door handle system (314).</p> |
