PURPOSE: A composition containing compounds isolated from Saururus chinensis Baill extract is provided to suppress HIV-1 protease activity and to prevent and treat AIDS. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating AIDS contains manassantin A, manassantin B, Saucerneol B, Saucerneol C, or Saururin B compound isolated from Saururus chinensis Baill extract as an active ingredient. The Saururus chinensis Baill extract is a crude extract, polar solvent extract, or non-polar solvent extract. The crude extract is isolated using water, low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms, or mixture solvent. A health food for preventing and treating AIDS contains manassantin A, manassantin B, Saucerneol B, Saucerneol C, or Saururin B compound isolated from Saururus chinensis Baill extract as an active ingredient. The health food is manufactured in the form of powder, granule, tablet, capsule, or beverage.
