PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling home network system using a mobile terminal and a method thereof are provided to control devices of a home network system using an application of the mobile terminal. CONSTITUTION: A mobile terminal(101) receives a list of devices which are connected to a home network from a home network gateway(103). The mobile terminal indicates the devices connected to the home network. If one of displayed devices is selected, the mobile terminal requests the state information of the selected device to the selected device through the gate way. The mobile terminal receives the state information of the selected device.
