PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with an air cleaning device which performs efficient air cleaning by relating opening/closing of an original platen cover to emission of an ion and then emitting the ion. SOLUTION: An ion emitting direction and air quantity from the air cleaning device 71 are adjusted according to an opening/closing angle of the original platen cover 42. When the opening/closing angle of the original platen cover 42 is smaller than a value of a predetermined angle, a controller 74 sets the ion emitting direction of the air cleaning device 71 so that the ion may be emitted toward a side of an apparatus of its own, and when the opening/closing angle of the original platen cover 42 is larger than the value of the predetermined angle, the controller sets the ion emitting direction so that the ion may be emitted to an upper side of the image forming apparatus. Therefore, the ion is emitted to space of a room in which a person exists in such a manner that the emitted ion does not strike at the original platen cover, and the efficient air cleaning is performed.
