PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire enhancing rubber strength, rigidity and wear-resistance than a conventional level without deteriorating on-ice friction force. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for the tire is characterized in that 5-50 pts.wt. of carbon black having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 80-140 m<SP>2</SP>/g and 0.1-10 pts.wt. of a benzimidazole compound represented by formula (1) are formulated based on 100 pts.wt. of a rubber component containing 60-100 wt.% of a diene based rubber having a glass transition temperature of -60°C or lower (wherein R<SP>1</SP>represents at least one selected from COOH, COOR<SP>2</SP>, (CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>COOH and (CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>COOR<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>represents a 1-4C alkyl group, and n is an integer of 1-5).
