<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that achieves high contrast by reducing leakage of obliquely incident light fluxes while using a polarizing element that suppresses heating. <P>SOLUTION: A first polarizing element 62b is a reflection type polarizing element, and is arranged so that a reflection axis RX of polarization is substantially vertical to an incident face. A second polarizing element 63b that uses transmission light. The second polarizing element is arranged so that a transmission axis TX of polarization is extended in a direction vertical to the reflection axis RX. As the result, an optical axis OA1 of the first polarizing element 62b and an optical axis OA2 of the second polarizing element 63b are arranged in parallel. In other words, an apparent angle relationship between the optical axis OA1 of the first polarizing element 62b and the optical axis OA2 of the second polarizing element 63b is kept for a center light flux and the obliquely incident light fluxes along a system optical axis SA, thereby reducing the leakage of the obliquely incident light fluxes to achieve high contrast. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
