A self-aligning rectilinear-motion bearing for structures such as bridges comprises a first plate (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), which is made of rubber and has a bearing surface (3) of P.T.F.E. vulcanized thereon; and a second plate which engages the bearing surface (3) of the first plate (1). The second plate, which is longer than the first plate, may be made of rubber and have a bearing surface of P.T.F.E. vulcanized thereon; may be made of steel, the bearing surface of which has been made smooth; and may be made of steel and have a bearing surface of P.T.F.E. thereon. The rubber plate (1) permits rocking movements of the structure and may be reinforced by inserts (2). The first and second plates are positioned between structural members (5, 5) but are not attached thereto. |
