The invention comprises compounds of the general formula (wherein R represents a halogen atom or a C1- 3 alkyl group, R1 and R2 each represen a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C1- 3 alkyl or alkoxy group, and n is 1 or 2) and their physiologically tolerable acid addition salts, and pharmaceutical preparations containing these compounds in admixture or conjunction with a carrier, and the preparation of the compounds by (a) reacting an amine of the general formula with phenylacetone with simultaneous or subsequent reduction, or with a 1-phenyl-2-halopropane or -propene with subsequent hydrogenation when using the propene, or (b) reacting 2-amino-3-phenylpropane with a halogenated diphenylalkane of the general formula (wherein Hal represents a chlorine, bromine or iodine atom), or with an aldehyde of the general formula (n = 0 or 1) with simultaneous or subsequent reduction, or (c) reducing an amide of the general formula (n = 0 or 1), or (d) hydrogenating a diphenyl alkene of the general formula (n = 0 or 1), and in all cases, if desired and necessary, converting the product into an acid addition salt by means of an inorganic or organic acid. Amines (II) are prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of the corresponding diphenyl-aceto-nitriles and -propionitriles. Halogenated diphenylalkanes (III) are prepared by halogenating the corresponding diphenylalkanols. Amides (V) are prepared by reacting the corresponding acid chlorides with 1-phenyl-2-aminopropane. Diphenylalkenes (VI) are prepared by dehydrating compounds of the general formula (n = 0 or 1). The pharmaceutical preparations, which have a favourable action on cardiac and blood vascular circulation, may be in forms suitable for oral or parenteral administration, e.g. tablets, dragees or, when using the acid addition salts, aqueous solutions.
