PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery having a structure in which without additionally installing a piping in order to exhaust a cracked gas generated inside a cell at a faulty time of the cell, the emission of the cracked gas outside a battery case is suppressed. SOLUTION: The secondary battery is equipped with a battery element having a nonaqueous electrolytic solution and the battery case to house the battery element. The battery case is divided into a first space and a second space, the battery element is housed in the first space, and at a border between the first space and the second space, a communication valve is installed to communicate the first space and the second space when a prescribed pressure is applied on the first space.
