PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device of a sample for fixing a biological sample in a state where cells, or the like are alive at an optional point in time while observing by a horizontal optical microscope. SOLUTION: The fixing device 1 includes the horizontal optical microscope 2 and a sample fixing section 3. The fixing device 1 is composed so that an observer observes, by the horizontal optical microscope 2, an active state of cell samples held at the sample fixing section 3 by the horizontal optical microscope 2 and the biological sample can be fixed at an arbitrary point of time in a specific phenomenon. The sample fixing section 3 includes a holding section 18, a falling mechanism 19, and a freezing section 20, and the falling mechanism 19 allows the biological sample held by the holding section 18 to fall to the freezing section 20.
