<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve positional accuracy of an image transferred on recording paper by preventing a meandering control from not being carried out properly due to having a belt ride over a contactor. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 includes the contactor 202 which is abutted to an end part of an intermediate transfer belt 8 in the width direction and displaced according to the position of the intermediate transfer belt 8 in the width direction and a displacement sensor 403 for detecting the position of the contactor 202. In this case, the position of the intermediate transfer belt 8 in the width direction is controlled based on the detection result of the displacement sensor 403. Furthermore, an amount of displacement ΔF for the contactor 202 is detected per time unit when the intermediate transfer belt 8 is moved in the width direction and the intermediate transfer belt 8 is determined to be riding over the contactor 202 when the detected amount of displacement is smaller than a prescribed threshold ΔFth. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
